Pongal is the most important festival celebrated by Tamil people in Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and also in Sri Lanka. Pongal is also referred to as Thai Pongal. It is a multi-day Hindu harvest festival that is celebrated by the Tamil people. Every year during January on 14th, and according to the Tamil solar calendar, it starts of the month Thai.

It is dedicated to the Hindu sun god, the Surya. We celebrate to thank and express gratitude to God and nature for the bountiful harvest.

We discard old belongings and start up with the new ones on the first day of the Pongal. On the second day of Pongal, Pongal means to boil or overflow. We make Sweet Pongal which is prepared of rice boiled milk with jaggery.

On the third day of Pongal, Maatu Pongal people were dedicated to worshipping livestock. They worship bulls and cows by decorating them with bright colours. On the final day of pongal, Kaanum Pongal receives blessings from elder ones and spread positivity
